Cuccumella
Cuccumella · Cuccumella
he traditional Neapolitan name for the Neapolitan Macchinetta. It is a classic Italian flip-drip coffee maker consisting of two stacked compartments separated by a central two-sided filter holding the ground coffee. Water is heated in the bottom compartment; once it reaches a boil, the pot is removed from the heat and flipped upside down. This action allows the hot water to drip slowly through the coffee grounds into the empty compartment via gravity.
Doser
Doser · Pay Dökücü
A mechanical chamber attached to an espresso grinder, equipped with a spring-loaded lever and internal star-wheel mechanism, that collects ground coffee and dispenses a pre-measured portion (dose) directly into a portafilter upon manual activation.
Fluid Bed Roaster
Fluidbett-Röster · Akışkan Yataklı Kavurma Makinesi
A roasting apparatus that operates by utilizing a column of forced hot air to simultaneously agitate and roast green coffee beans, functioning on the principle of fluidization much like a pneumatic dryer.
Moka Pot
Moka-Kanne · Moka Pot
A traditional Italian stovetop coffee maker patented in 1933 by Alfonso Bialetti (based on an invention by Luigi De Ponti). Also known as a macchinetta, it brews a strong, espresso-like coffee by passing boiling water pressurized by steam upwards through finely ground coffee.
Neapolitan Macchinetta
Neapolitanische Macchinetta · Napoli Makinesi
A traditional Italian flip-drip coffee maker, originating in Naples and locally known as a cuccumella. The device consists of two stacked compartments separated by a central two-sided filter holding the ground coffee. Water is heated in the bottom compartment; once it reaches a boil, the pot is removed from the heat and flipped upside down. This action allows the hot water to drip slowly through the coffee grounds into the empty compartment (now at the bottom) via gravity.
Piston Machine
Kolbenmaschine · Pistonlu Espresso Makinesi
A traditional espresso machine that utilizes a manually or spring-operated piston mechanism driven by a lever. This design allows the barista to exert direct mechanical force, pushing hot brewing water through a compacted bed of ground coffee at variable or spring-regulated pressures to extract a rich, full-bodied espresso.
Portafilter
Siebträger · Portafiltre
A critical espresso machine component consisting of a heavy metal basket holder equipped with a handle. It houses the removable metal filter basket that holds the compacted bed of ground coffee (the coffee puck) and locks securely into the machine's brew group head via a bayonet mount during extraction.
Steam Wand
Dampflanze, Düse, Rohr, Stylus · Buhar Çubuğu
The small protruding pipe on most espresso machines that provides pressurized steam for heating and frothing milk.
Tamper
Tamper · Tamper
A handheld tool featuring a flat, convex, or textured metal base attached to a handle, used to compact, level, and distribute ground coffee evenly inside an espresso portafilter basket to ensure optimal resistance against pressurized water.
